A quadruped earns its cost where a wheeled platform cannot go: stairwells, plant rooms, construction sites, substations and inspection routes with debris. If your route is flat and clean, a wheeled robot is cheaper, faster and has longer runtime. Be honest about whether you actually need legs.
Legged platforms typically run for a few hours per charge and carry a few kilograms of sensor payload. That is enough for a camera, a thermal imager or a gas sensor, and not enough for a manipulator plus a heavy battery. Design the inspection route around a 90-minute sortie with a return-to-charge point, rather than expecting a full shift.
Ask about recovery. A quadruped that falls on stairs needs a documented recovery procedure and, usually, two people. Confirm what the vendor supports before you deploy it in a confined space.
